How to Maintain Your HVAC System in Summer

Jul 8, 2022 | HVAC

Your air conditioner sees heavy use every summer. To ensure it is in peak condition during the hottest months of the year, you must see to it that it undergoes regular maintenance.

HVAC System Every Summer

To help you out, our HVAC installation team at A/C and Refrigeration shares a few helpful tips that you can use to keep your system running smoothly.

Check Your Outdoor Unit

One way to keep your AC system running smoothly and efficiently is to keep your outdoor unit clear of debris and other obstructions, including weeds, leaves, branches and even trash. Trim back shrubs and other plants near the unit as they may inhibit performance. Maintain a clearance of at least two feet on all four sides of the outdoor unit to ensure proper airflow.

Schedule a Professional Maintenance Check

This should be done at least yearly to ensure your HVAC remains in good condition. A DIY cleaning and inspection won’t be enough, as most manufacturers also require a professional maintenance check to keep the warranty valid. Hire an experienced HVAC repair and maintenance technician who has the training and equipment necessary to check your system thoroughly, from checking the wiring and condensate drain for leaks to calibrating the thermostat and refilling refrigerant levels.

Clean or Change the Air Filter

Your air filters are meant to capture airborne particles and pollutants from the outside air before they circulate throughout your home. This keeps your indoor air quality clean and safe to breathe, but if the filters become too dirty, they may instead impede airflow and cause your AC to work twice as hard. To enjoy consistent comfort and clean indoor air this season, check your air filter clean or replace accordingly. This also prevents your HVAC from working harder than necessary.
